A Powerhouse of a Herbal Cough Syrup

Herbal Cough Syrup Recipe:

What you will need:

4 ounces od wild Cherry bark
2 ounces of horehound
2 ounces of Mullen
1 ounce of chamomile flowers
Food Grade Vegetable Glycerin
Distilled Water

All of the herbs are great aids for the respiratory system. I added Chamomile, a nervine also a calmative to help with any added suppressions with  any spasmodic activity that could be causing the cough. 

Add all the herbs to a pot that is not aluminum. then add enough distilled water to go 1/4 of an inch above herbs. low simmer for 30 minutes. Add glycerin and mix well simmer another 30 minutes. Let Cool and strain and press well bottle and keep in Refrigerator. 

A few uses for this recipe are:
Cold n Flu
Whooping Cough
High Blood Pressure

Adding 1/8 teaspoon of anise seed powder will bring up phlegm in severe cases but not for children use.

1/8 tsp of raw domestic(if possible) bee pollen 
6 ounces of warm filtered water stir well until dissolved any undissolved pollen eat and follow with a glass of warm filtered water

A powerful slippery Elm Gruel for ADULTS:

  • 12 ounces of warm filtered water
  • 3 teaspoons of Slippery Elm Bark Powder 
  • 1/8 teaspoon of Bee Pollen

This is a two step process

Step 1. Dissolve the Bee Pollen in 12 ounces of warm filtered water well 
Step 2. add the slippery elm bark powder slowly and mix well as you add 
The consistency should be like a watery hot cereal drink or eat as needed as a food. if you want to make a dough of this simply add more slippery elm bark powder and eat as if it were a soft nutrition bar.

A powerhouse of an Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic( taught to me by my grandfather)
I have used this tonic with great and amazing success and still use it to this day 
  • 10 ounce glass of filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons of Raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Raw Wild flower honey

Mix very well and use as needed I have been using this since the age of 6 and am now 50 
This tonic will also help those pasty 24 hr bugs. and if drank hot and as a tea after the cider finger has been warmed not boiled then add the RAW wildflower honey to preserve the vital enzymes in the honey.
Other Survival Recipes for Personal hygiene
Making Thyme Tea and after it has cooled use it as a disinfecting mouthwash.
Using a fresh cut Lime( cut in half) as a underarm deodorant will help with body odor
Making Echinacea tea and once cooled can be used as a antibacterial body wash  use the flower and stems but no roots.
Making a Witch hazel tea and adding pure aloe juice 30% is an excellent resource for sunburn and a natural body coolant.
Using  1 part Witch hazel, 1 part Pure Aloe Juice, and 2-3 drops of pure uncut essential oil of lavender or cooled lavender tea (1 part) will keep the skin healthy and revitalized as well as cleansed.

Herbal Tinctures are a herbs in a concentrated form it is said at times to be at 12 times its normal strength.  This is because during the infusion process all the nutrients and vital enzymes are collected and all collectively and naturally infused as one nutrient. this nutrient can be in anti biotic form anti- septic form as a calmative or even all brought together in formulation for a multiple purpose solution. The purpose of the concentrated nutrient will directly address another nutrient that has been compromised through malnutrition illness or passed through by the food process. Example one of the Main symptoms of a Cold and flu is a week immune system. So how do we directly address the week immune system not only to make it strong again but the ability to maintain a all healthy nutrients levels this will build a good foundation for overall health and wellness. "NATURALLY" an example of this a few herbs to use would be echinacea and goldenseal as a combination/ formula  for a duration of initial wellness then Slippery elm bark is another powerhouse of a nutritional herb. So powerful if famine broke out you could literally live off this alone indefinitely. and is safe enough to give to an infant.  Also herbal tinctures are convenient to administer you an take it in a juice warm water or subliminally or on the tongue. 
There are various types of tinctures: 
Alcohol Tinctures These are the mother of the tinctures they have a long shelf life before they begin to loose their potency.
Glycerin Tincture These tinctures are great for diabetics and or children where alcohol would not be applicable in its administration particularly with children diabetics those with alcohol problems.
Acid Tinctures These are herbal tinctures extracted with an organic apple cider vinegar preferable raw. they are less potent and shelf life is short they are good for a common cold season or sporadically during the year.

Note when making a tincture it is said to press the infused/ Soaked herbs then discard them Why I am doing now is taking the press herbs in a coffee grinder and grinding the as much as possible and placing them back into the Pressed liquid then bottle it with all the natural plant materials it creates  an ongoing infusion process to maintain it true potencie(s) and achieve a deeper and greater extraction process. This was taught to me by a natural doctor. he said if the tincture liquid is particalless it is missed its true potential.

Also remember Roots and seed are the sternest pert of the herbal plant and are very potent for ttincure making. Think about it, The BEGINNING (root) and the end(when the herb goes to seed all nutrients concentrate up t the seed )this is goos not only for tincture potency but making your own essential oils.

When using Alchol tinctures sometime it is required to use a min strength of 100 proof for a good extraction Also the better grade alcohol the better the preservation of the tincture (longer shelf life before it begins to loose its potency) 

A good Alchohol Tincture recipe.
1 ounce echinacea plant antibiotic and antibacterial properties
1/2 ounce of echinacea Root plant antibiotic and antibacterial properties but much more potent
1/4 ounce Goldenseal  antiseptic properties
1/4 ounce of pure raw Bee pollen

Place all ingredients in a clan jar and initially fill it so that all combined herbs are now equal to one part so we need to add three pars of good 100 proof alcohol like grain or vodka and shoe it well let it sit for a day in a dark cool place like a (Shoebox in a cloud room or basement) then after the first day check the liquid levels and add more alcohol if needed(the hens will absorb the initial alcohol quickly then shake daily for two weeks but then let it sit for a total of a miminum of 6 weeks but a word of advise the longer the better.(better extraction more potent and better formulated).

A good Acid Ticture

Apple Cider Garlic this will hep get rid of the cold and even a strong virus due to the anti-viral properties of Garlic.

2 cloves of garlic pressed in a clean glass jar
1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
4 ounces of Organic Raw unfiltered Apple cider vinegar 

Place all in a clean glass jar and shake daily for two weeks and then it is ready for use as needed.

A simple Glycerine Tincture 

Due to its limited extraction capabilities and preservation I would limit these to plant materials and not rely on them for a good root extraction.  You will se retail versions of glycerine tincture but they are exreacted through a process of forced distillation and during this process critical enzymes and molecular wall are damage making it not as potent as a homemade cold infused tincture.

2 ounces od dried dandelion greens
4 ounces of food grade vegetable glycerine
3 ounces of distilled water

First mix the distilled water and the glycerine until it becomes very clear.

place herbs in a clean glass jar and add 2 parts glycerine
mix well then add more glycerine until it is about 1 inch above the soaked herb shake well for 2 weeks let stand in a cool dark place for 4 weeks and use are needed it is said glycerine tincture begin to loose there potency after only one year.

Thyme works incredibly on the respiratory system and also has soothing and sedative action on the nerves.although powerful and nonpoisonous and will eliminate all infection, kill worms (not all  larva).

Pure Thyme oil mixed with pure tea tree oil and distilled and peppermint or lavender essential oil will give you a Powerful but wonderful anti-septic cleaning solution that is chemical free and great for sterilizing the home during and after any illness' 

the other powerful antibiotic herbs that can be used are Oregano and Clove but not limited to these three but these are 3 powerhouse herbs with antibiotic and ant- septic properties with very high O.R.A.C. levels.( oral is a measurement of antioxident(s) ) 

Thyme Tea( for gargle)
2 teaspoons of dried thyme
10 ounces of distilled or filtered water.

Steep only for 4 minutes (the longer you steep thyme the more bitter it gets)
press the soaked herbs when cooled shake well let cool and gargle this will help disinfect your mouth and throat thus helping and soreness to heal quicker. 
Adding 2 drops of pure peppermint essential oil will make an excellent mouth wash/rinse.

cooled thyme tea is good for cuts and promotes wound healing. Thyme will also with lavender revitalize dead skin cells in addition to cleansing it. 

A herbal Skin Wash
10 ounces of distilled water
1 teaspoon of dried Lavender flowers
1 teaspoon of dried Calendula flowers

Rinse your skin for several days and what the color and vitality return 
you can also make a few of these and soak it a warm bath then taking the filled cheesecloth and wetting them regularly wash your body as you would with a bar of soap. Do not use body lotion at all while you are doing this this will allow the pores to remain open and breath giving you a healthy skin overall. 

Do not use thyme if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

You will need:
  • 2 tablespoons of Slippery Elm Bark 
  • a handful of dandelion greens
  • 1 teaspoon of Spirulina  Spirulina is a great source of other nutrients including  “Spirulina contains vitamins B-1(thiamine), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3(nicotinamide), B-6 (pyridoxine), B-9 (folic acid), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and vitamin E. It is also a source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium,  manganese, phosphorus,  selenium, sodium and zinc. Spirulina contains many pigments which may be beneficial and bioavailable”1 teaspoon of Chlorella..Chlorella supplies high levels of Beta-Carotene, Vitamin B-12, Iron, RNA, DNA and protein.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Bee Pollen This will provide the truest form of B spectrum vitamins you can get.
  • 1 teaspoon of echinacea root powder will keep the immune system STABLE
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne powder will act as a stimulant for all the herbs and the overall tonic and increasing the blood flow.
  • 8 ounces of distilled water
  • 10 ounces of pure coconut water this will rehydrate you. and help maintain good absorption levels

Simmer but not a hard boil the distilled water 
Place all ingredients except echinacea and cayenne powders in a glass jar  for 1 hr with the simmered water.   
Take the echinacea and cayenne powers in a strainer and pour the hot water and herbs through the powders into another glass jar 
Take all the soaked herbs and press WELL this is were all the good stuff is add the pressed juices to the glass jar and shake well use immediately or refrigerate and use daily for nutritional supplementation.

Herbs For Fevers

A fever is an indication of an internal  bacterial or viral infection. This could be due to toxins or neurotoxins which come from  food or the air or just an infection passed by another person . So we need to get the infection out to begin the healing process. This is achieved through both "Diaphoretic" herbs( herbs that open the pores and  induce sweating) and "Diuretic" ( herbs that induce urine flow) and Laxative herbs( herbs that induce Bowel Movements). Once this is achieve a nutritional supplementation is required immediately to replenish both damaged and lost nutrients from the infection(s) 

Also Personal hygiene is vital As well as the soundings  If sweating is induced through the use of a diaphoretic herb(s) such as Yarrow Root then the body must be wasted from the sweat to prevent it from reentering back into the pores. 

Also a need to replenish Fluid (sodium levels) this can be don with a freshly juiced Apples and Celery. Celery is the best for recovery and you could even eventually get rid of your home salt shakers.

1 part of each
Yarrow Root
lemon balm
Slippery Elm Bark

Place all herbs in a Spice Bag
Pour 8 ounces. Boiling water over the bag Let steep for 4-5 minutes and press the herbs well  then place 1 teaspoon of cayenne in a strainer then pour the hot tea through the cayenne slowly.

Also Note that a slippery Elm gruel is also extremely Beneficial 

To make a slippery elm gruel
take 4 teaspoons of slippery elm bark powder 
and mix it with 10 ounces of good filtered water
drink it  2 times daily

Also Hot showers are good for inducing sweat and keeping the pores open for a good duration do not put ant body lotion or splash after the shower for his will clog the pores.

Another Healthy Tonic: My grandfather taught me

10 ounces of filtered water 
2 tablespoons of Raw UnfilteredApple Cider Vinegar
2 tablespoons of raw Wildflower honey
dink as needed. will revitalize and help rebalance the systems PH levels and much more se the Apple Cider Vinegar section of this blog. 

A Recovery Juice/Tonic

4 red delicious Apples
2 stalks of Celery
handful of Chicory
1 good pinch of Thyme
1/4 inch piece of fresh Ginger Root

This will help recover Needed Sodium Levels. while helping keep the immune system strong along with the thyme and ginger root.
