The Power of Oregano Tea

The Benefits of Oregano & Oregano Tea

Survival Properties: "Powerful Anti-Biotic"

Oregano is a slightly bitter herb that belongs in the mint family. It is a small shrub with green oval leaves and tiny pink and white flowers. It is native to northern Europe but grows in many regions throughout the world.
Oregano is a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin K, iron, and maganese. It is also a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Constituents of oregano include thymol, carvacrol, limonene, caryophyllene, ocimene, and pinene.

Health Benefits of Oregano Tea
Thymol and carvacrol have both been shown to prevent bacterial growth, including Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Researchers in Mexico have found oregano to be more effective than tinidazol (a prescription drug) when treating Giardia lamblia (an intestinal parasite that can cause severe diarrhea).
Oregano is packed with phytonutrients (including thymol) that function as antioxidants, thus protecting cells from free radical damage. Free radicals are linked to many diseases, including heart disease and cancer.
Oregano tea can also help in the treatment of:
• mild fevers, coughs, colds, and influenza
• indigestion, flatulence, and bloating
• amenorrhea and menstrual cramps
• seasonal allergies
• arthritis.

Preparing Oregano Tea
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of dried oregano leaves or 3 teaspoons of fresh oregano leaves, cover, steep for 4 minutes, strain, and drink.
You can also get the health benefits of oregano tea by using it externally to treat skin infections.

Storing Oregano
Wrap fresh oregano in a damp paper towel and store in the refrigerator. You can also place it in an airtight container (whole or chopped) and keep it in the freezer.
Keep dried oregano in a glass container (tightly sealed) and store in a cool, dark, and dry place. This will help keep it fresh for six months.(before it begins to loose its Medicinal Potency).
